I was born in Sasolburg, Free State, South Africa in 1975. I little blond girl who lived just for playing and learning. A creative person who grew up to love the beauty around her, nature, buildings, people. How there faces differ and what certain expression on their faces mean. Only late in my life I discovered the joy that engulfed me when walking/driving around taking photographs. A total amateur at the incredible profession of photography, but loving every moment when going trough the taken pics and remembering the moment it came to life.

Taking photo’s fits perfectly in with my chosen profession as an Architectural Technologist. I have always love drawing, not landscapes or animal, but buildings. Not being an artist, photography helped me to capture the animals, landscapes and people which I can not draw. The word photography is based on the greek φῶς(photos) “light” and γραφή (graphé) “representation by means of lines” or “drawing”, together meaning “drawing with light”.  So how perfect it is that I get to live out my two loves, drawing beautiful homes with pencils and then “drawing” the rest of this amazing world with my camera. To me photography is an activity and an art, creating still pictures by recording them with ones camera. It is pure magic, intriguing…

I have no particular style. I am still working on becoming better with every shot I take, believing a photo has to tell a story, even if it is not the truth, a person has to see something in it. It has to have depth. Experiment and improve every time the shutter clicks. Wanting to create something unexpected and alluring. There are no rules for a perfect image, except it’s effect and appeal to the audience, who is the ultimate judge.

 

Photographs are just amazing.  Through photographs, we preserve history, moments in time. Photographs evoke the essence of places we have not been, we perhaps will not return to, and should never forget.  The thought that one is able to bring someone somewhere in this vast world into your own is awesome. You take them on a safari trip with animals, a beautiful landscape, walking amongst flowers not growing in there part of the world. In short, photographs play a huge role in our daily live.

A friend once told me that the best photograph is the one taken with the camera that is available at that moment. My wish is that when something great or small comes along, that my camera will be ready for that all familiar click of the shutter.
